Kid Carson will take over mornings September 01, 2012. SONiC 104.9 Vancouver. No word whether Ryder will stay OR become KID CARSON sidekick on SONiC 104.9. Rogers Vancouver continues to be a troubled frequency. Rogers stealing Kid Carson from Vancouver's number one music station could in fact be the story of the year and not to mention a nice new payday for KC. One must feel for Ryder if he is officially fired from Rogers. Uprooting air talent from other markets only to fire them months later.

This week Kid Carson walks away from Vancouver's top rated morning show on The Beat 94.5 for the struggling SONiC 104.9. We have learned that Kid Carson was shopping around and approached Rogers about the possibilities of bringing the Kid Carson Show to 104.9. Turns out it was a no brain er for Rogers and did a deal. KC starts in September. This will allow some down time to get refreshed and hit the air after the summer.
What about Ryder? We can tell you he has been offered a position on the show but does he want to be a sidekick with KC? I wonder if Ryder will want to bang heads on creativity of the show or opt out for a new beginning in another market. AC tried to contact Kid Carson & Ryder both have provided no comment. Airchecker believes Ryder will want to go solo and search out a new radio gig.

I have been listening to Ryder since he started here. Me,myself and friends think he is tired, boring, and uninteresting.
Personal opinion time, he is being offered another job because he has one, long, boring, and uninteresting two or three year contract to enjoy.
I hope he leaves town, sorry Ryder.

As someone who has worked in the Rogers building I can assure you Ryder wasn't fired. Rogers made this move for one reason... they had a chance to hire the #1 morning show in market. Plain and simple. SONiC needs higher ratings and they need them yesterday. This has nothing to do with 4/20, no matter what some hack or daily fish wrap like 24 thinks. It's always about ratings. Anyone who has worked in radio knows that.
Important facts missing from this discussion:
1- Kid is perceived as #1 morning show only by those who see 2+ or 12+ numbers. The fact is Kid has slowly declined over the last few years mainly by Virgin. Kid only wins in the under 25 demo, and that does little for ad sales.
2- Most of the station is out-performing Kid, including Holy Conway by a frightening margin. When you see the numbers, there's no question why CS made this move.
3- Kid was up for contract renewal and he wasn't worth the dollars.
Do the math. The Beat was done paying him what he signed on for 5 years ago and Sonic is picking up the pieces in an attempt to get some numbers. The question is will KC's audience follow him and make Sonic a real player or will both Sonic and Kid's days be numbered.
It's up to Vancouver
My guess: they shuffle around some talent and move Ryder to another shift.
If it doesn't work in 12 months they ditch the whole thing and launch Sports Net FM. Over
Sonic FM needs to go and bring FUN FM back as this station needs to get rid of Ryder as he is no good and KC is good but look at your track record Rogers as you always have a hard time keeping with 1 station. This is a slap in the face for Vancouver that loved FUN FM and you bring kids to work on Sonic FM when in fact we do not need this kind of garbage of this station. Bring back the oldies on 104.9

Lots of great comments. Ryder may not want to be the second man on the team. When you get hired on 104.9 get a good lawyer to lock down the deal. I hope to have that questioned answered as to why KC walked. A fresh start on a new freq can do one good. Yes, he will take his loyal listeners to 104.9. Imaging on the SONiC is weak. I hope to hear Trevor Shand launch in September as well. I sampled the Beat new morning show. That team requires months of interaction before they will all gel and find a role. Rogers take some time in programming. Make listeners hear you have the best radio station in town. BEAT 94.5 has two swing positions open if you are interested. Good luck Ryder keep moving forward. Take afternoon drive make it your own.

Any station needs ratings- and I get what Ryder was doing. But I found his twitter account to be very offensive. Maybe a different format would suit him better. Vancouver radio is very interesting right now.
The twitter account @ryderfm is one of the best. Yeah, he is a dick, but that is why I love him...just wish I could be awake in time to catch more of his shows....
Sonic FM sucks big time.Why the change in music Rogers.Is time you fires some managers again as there is a problem with your group changing music again.What was wrong with FUN FM.Nothing.What was wroing with Clear FM.Nothing.The only problem we have is managment and your program director.He need to be fired as does your GM of Sonic and Jack. You lost lots of listeners Rogers because of your staff. Make a change for what Vancouver would like not what Rogers would like.

I agree with the listener that suggested Rogers does away with Sonic FM and all that music and bring back FUN FM. Your company has a problem keeping 1 station. The last station was a great one. Rogers you need to change your managers again for the fourth time. Your group that is making plans of a change in music should be out the door like you did with everyone else.Why are Larry and Willy still around on your sister station. They should have been let go along time ago. There was nothing wrong with FUN FM or your morning show. Make a change for the better on Ash Street Rogers and give your team pink slips as Sonic sucks big time as do the team of your station. Why get rid of good people as this is what you did. Get rid of Sonic FM.Why is that every radio station in Vancouver has great ideas the way to run a radio station and 104.9 has trouble keeping 1 station. It is because the managers have no idea the way to run a station.I am 52 years old and Loved listening to Red Robinson on FUN FM and you crashed such a great station and put this music on.Why have 3 stations in Vancouver the same. Astral already has 95.3 and they sound great. 94.5 the Beat is great as well. FUN FM should have never been put off the air. You made a bad move Rogers.Now it is time for you to make change at Sonic and bring back FUN FM

I guess they are going to fire Kid Carson pretty soon. Sonic's rating suck. Ryder was way better. I listen to the Beat now that Kid is gone.
That's not going to happen. Format requires another year before you can evaluate. Programmers must work harder to make it a winner.
